Final Garment:Modern Flapper

IMG_4407 IMG_4411The Inspiration of my garment comes from the garments seen in the 1974 version of the film The Great Gatsby. The big summer hat that Daisy wears when she meets Gatsby and flapper dresses that are seen at Gatsby’s party both inspired the style of my garment. Also, in order to create a design that is not a replica of the flapper style dress, I decided to make my garment more modern. The dress is made for a modern day flapper; a young rebellious women in her mid twenties who is trendy and very social. The garment is made of layered chiffon. The layering affect is seen in the arms and on the shoulder, where there is only one layer of the chiffon instead of two; this is also a element inspired by Daisy’s hat. The silhouette of the dress is draped in a vertical line that makes the body appear slender, which is a characteristic from the flapper dresses worn by the women seen at Gatsby’s party. Details, such as the length, neckline, make the garment more appealing for a young and sociable women of today. great-gatsby-cover gatsby-hat flapper and film flapperIMG_4349IMG_4358 breanda sketchIMG_4350 IMG_4351 IMG_4355 IMG_4354 IMG_4353 IMG_4352 IMG_4357 IMG_4356 IMG_4371IMG_4370 IMG_4369IMG_4368 IMG_4367
